Extinct Birds of New Zealand

"In 2010 I won a merit prize at the NZ Painting and Printmaking Award with a cardboard diorama featuring NZ bank note birds- which are no longer in currency and so become 'extinct'. I have long wanted to revisit this theme and this painting is the first in that series. The orange tui is from the $5 note and the blue kea featured on the $10 note. I will be sending you an email later today with images of the banknotes and my artist statement around this work. There is also another layer to this work now, in 2024, as paper money itself is endangered, as we shift further and further to plastic and digital transactions."
