Alison Fausett
Alison Fausett is a Mill Bay, Mangonui based Northland artist who works in a variety of mediums. She has exhibited work in solo/group shows throughout NZ and has been a finalist in the Wallace Art Awards and the National Contemporary Art Awards.
Her practice is the negotiation of a liminal space between the abject and the sublime, moving this exploration around related and overlapping bodies of work – large scale photographic works, sculpture and paintings, draw upon notions about common and disquieting objects, usually connected to the home.
The small 100 X 100mm cross shaped paintings focus on the influence and effect of wind and water in her local environment in and around Northland. The small cross shaped works; oil paint on wood, are imagined and actual scenes in this environment. These are small narratives which harbour levels of disquiet, absurdity and strangeness.
Alison has been a Secondary School, visual arts teacher for many years. She completed a Diploma. Fine Arts at Auckland University Fine Arts School upon leaving school, then in 2004 completed a Master of Fine Arts at RMIT, Melbourne, Australia.
