Hollie ONeill

Since early career in 2009, as one of the pioneering New Zealand artists to adopt non-traditional mediums and painting techniques, I have harnessed the unique qualities of epoxy polymer on circular mirrored glass and aluminium to produce abstract colour field paintings that celebrate the optical and emotional aspects of luminosity and colour.

Born from a place of meditation, my works aim to invoke infinite energy, becoming a mirror not only in their reflective properties but also in reflecting a state of inner calm.

Through the thoughtful selection of materials and a contemplative creative process, I craft pieces that embody a sense of serenity and boundlessness. These artworks offer an immersive interplay between viewer and artwork, igniting the viewer's energy, providing a momentary refuge from the bustle of life, and fostering an introspective connection.

My hope is that each individual engaging with my work feels a spark—an invitation to discover the expanse of their own inner landscapes amidst the luminous light and reflective depths of each painting.

I have been selected as a finalist for New Zealand’s prestigious Parkin Drawing Prize and NZ Painting and Printmaking Award. My works are held in private and corporate collections abroad, including significant collections such as New Zealand’s ‘Wallace Art Trust Collection’.

Having lived in Bay of Islands, Waihi Beach, Wanaka, and currently Auckland, I'm inspired by New Zealand’s unique and captivating light and natural environment. My abstract works are an exploration of the perceptual phenomenon of light and the potentialities of colour as pure sensation. 

What has become my 'classic print collection' of iconic NZ Animals, NZ Birds, NZ Flora and Fauna, and Wanaka Landscapes, is composed of vibrant colours, skilled use of light, and juxtaposition of nature and design - giving a unique sense of heightened reality.

I explored fine art practices while studying Bachelor of Art and Design and have been a professional artist since 2000.
