In her paintings Jo Kreyl is drawn to find the beauty in the ordinary or time worn. She is fascinated in the history of the objects and what may have gone on behind the scenes.
My husband, 2 teenage boys and I all really enjoy watching the latest movies annd we are particularly keen on the multiverse concept. Now while I paint I like to think that I am manipulating quantum physics and creating another timeline for each individual painting subject.
Flowers are forever perfect never to wither or die and toys are always waiting to be played with never ageing a day more than when I paint them. To help me depict this concept of time I use dramatic Tenebrism lighting. This is the juxtaposition of brightly lit subjects with inky black backgrounds.
To me the blackness itself is time and the light is coming from the sun of that separate universes timeline. ….but wait there’s more…. Like every good Blockbuster movie franchise there’s a teaser trailer at the end to keep you hooked.
Every single interaction a viewer has with my paintings creates a new parallel timeline all slightly different from each other. So cool!!!
