Phoebe Gander
I started creating art regularly again in 2018 and fell in love with mixed media. I create work using many layers to create depth and intrigue which draws on my textile design past.
Phoebe Gander is a British artist originally from the UK, she has lived in Gisborne with her husband for the past 14 years where they’ve since had three children.
Phoebe is a mixed media artist and works from her home studio in Wainui Beach.
“I have always painted, I have a BA hons degree in printed textile design, which I gained studying at Falmouth College of Arts in the UK in 2003. After we emigrated I had a break in creating art due to having children. I started creating art regularly again in 2018 and fell in love with mixed media. I create work using many layers to create depth and intrigue which draws on my textile design past.
Recently I have been developing abstract landscapes influenced by my love of light, nostalgia and memories, bringing together my past with the present. The beautiful light and scenery of New Zealand provides endless fuel for my creativity. There is something captivating about the landscape here that means it’s a never ending source of inspiration, ever changing with the seasons and weather... Living just across the road from the beach with a beautiful backdrop of hills means I can’t help but feel a strong connection to nature in all its majesty. I have loved sharing and developing my artistic voice over the past few years, especially using Instagram as a way to connect and inspire other artists. I have gained over 70 thousand followers by sharing my work and have sold my art to many people living in countries around the world.”
